my absence, peru,......and sickness
Journal Entry: Fri Sep 14, 2007, 11:16 PM
well, I'm back after being absent for over a month.
ANYWAYS what I did was go off to peru after saying goodbye to all those screaming kiddies I took care of at the Rec center; I miss them already T-T.
I primarily went to visit me gramps's grave for the first time, but the earthquake came along before all of that could happen. It was actually quite uneventful in lima; the real damage happened in isolated towns like chincha and pisco.
I really really wanted to get outside of the car and feel the earth wrench itself beneath my feet, but my mom was panicking enough as it is. *sigh* However, I did feel a bunch of minute aftershocks and the apartment we were staying in swayed around a bit (it was fun). It was really funny how nothing broke and the precious TV was saved from destruction by the bed, which was thrown accross the room from the foce of the initial earthquake.
It was unfortunate that ~500 people died and many were without food, water, or electricity. My family did some volunteer work and drove out to drop off supplies for some families in chincha.........it was sad how it was all the poor people (predominantly afro-peruvians or nativeamericans) who got shafted. It was also kind of scary because a prison fell from the earthquake and more than 500 escaped convicts were roaming the area; the people told us how they'd hear gunshots and people running in the night *shivers*.
It took FOREVER to do the charity work because the roads were out and we had to wait for 6 hours in the middle of nowhere just to get by this cliff road. I did have the best arroz con pulpo afterwards though.
AFter that sequence of events, my mom took me and me sis to some cool doctor dudes. ONe was this 85 year old guy who looked so adorable. His name was CASSINOVA *snickers* and he was really nice and a master yogic practitioner. I bought this book of him doing yoga poses; it is what I now read whenever I feel down -it's just so funny and awesome. He was really nice.
The other doctor we met was Dr. Daltobano. He is a famous doctor in peru and has many prestigous rewards and believes in a lot of interesting stuff. My mom, sis, and I went on this one week body cleansing diet with him (strange experience) that remarkably made us lose more than 8 pounds i a week. AFterwards, we mysteriously lost any previous taste or liking of meat. Meat is phenomenally disgusting to me now. However, I thanks this daltobano dude.....he could probably kick my @ss anyway- despite being 75. He was amazingly healthy and has caused amazing changes in some of the people he's treated.
After theese doctors, Me and my sis came back to the states (more than 3 weeks there with family) and my mom stayed behind with my uncle and both visited various doctors and specialists for their ailment. The doctors down there are really nice and one even refused to be payed for helping my mom with her heart condition *sniff* T-t. They are both doing much better.
Whilst i returned, I was sick with a respiratory infection and was smitten down to doing basically nothing and having periods of amnesia and exhaustion for the past 2 weeks. I am feeling better (still coughing though). ANyways it was quite amazing to come back to having more than 100 messages and devwatches pop up at me. Now i know how meje feels like.
Anyways I am finally free from those adorable yet horrible rec center kiddies (bless them), mostly healthy (now a vege/frutarian), and ......(lemme think)........sane? *snicker* of course not......I meant to say........*curses*......o yeah *hits self* I also now have access to the internet. HURRAY!
It has reently come to my attention that gejimayo is having a naruto contest.....I am definitely going to get in on that.... i can't draw comics worth a crud, but I respect her genius enough to write a fan fic that fits the contests criteria. I will also continue my other work (only has one T-T) and actually expand my devArt gallery.
NOw it is past midnight back here in Tejas and I need some shut eye.
